Fifty and Fabulous
Time flies when you’re having fun, but it also flies when you’re busy, andin the blink of an eye, you are in your fifties feeling like you’ve just finished a marathon. Even if you do feel tired, that doesn’t mean that you have to look like that; but it seems like everywhere you look there are articles and ads in magazines telling you what not to do in your fifties, what not to wear and how not to look. Instead of piling up ‘prohibitions’, we’re here to help you stay as fabulous in your fifties as you were in your twenties (and possibly even more so).
When they first discover that not only is their hair turning grey, but it’s thinning at the same time, many women start despairing. You may feel discouraged, but you should know that billions of women from all over the world are going through the same thing. Treat your hair from the inside: start taking vitamins and eating food rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, tuna, and eggs. You can also use products which contain jojoba oil – the oil that chemically resembles natural hair oil follicles and is great for restoring your hair’s healthy glow. What is more, grey hair is coarser than regular strands of hair, and when you’re dyeing and blow-drying it, you’re making it even coarser. Choose hair dyes without ammonia and use lower temperatures when blow-drying your hair to keep it soft and flexible.
You might be surprised to find out that subtle makeup can make you look primped and polished. Simply by wearing mascara, defining your brows, wearing lipstick or coloured lip balm, and adding some colour to your cheeks you will miraculously appear at least ten years younger. Still, you should avoid wearing too bold lipsticks and shimmer or sparkly finished products. Dark lipsticks can creep into fine lines around your mouth, and this ‘bleeding lipstick’ will make you look older than you actually are. Avoid sparkly products toosince these textures will draw attention to those fine lines and wrinkles you’re trying to hide in the first place. If you have dark circles around your eyes, don’t use much lighter concealer because it will never work. Instead, use your regular concealer and apply it thinly over foundation.
You will notice that gentle facial massages and mild toners just don’t give the same results as they used to. Your skin is aging, but instead of grieving about it, why not slow the process down? Cosmetic surgery has allowed us to change the way we look, and today, you can undergo a surgery which will allow you to look as young as you feel on the inside. Face lift is the ‘golden standard’ of cosmetic surgery, but perhaps you could try something less invasive first. If you choose neck lift specialists from Sydney, the recovery process after a neck lift will last around three days, so undergoing a minor procedure such as this can go a long way in making you look youthful without setting you back in your day-to-day activities.
As you approach the ultimate F word, remember that you being fifty has plenty of upsides: you know yourself, and you know very well what you want and what you like. This self-knowledge brings you a healthy dose of self-confidence too; you will soon notice that you have the kind of prowess that only comes with self-acceptance and self-love. Fifties are all about ‘self’ and you will soon discover how great it feels not having to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders and being free to focus on yourself.
